A large commercial property developer contacted Unistrut Midwest for assistance on a new development in Atlanta, GA. The developer had a new restaurant client moving into the property. The restaurant would need two grease trap units installed in the parking garage outside of their kitchen. The grease traps require access on top of a 54″ tall piece of equipment. Unistrut was asked to design a platform that would safely provide access to the grease traps on all four sides.

Unistrut was able to design an access platform that provided an OSHA approved walkway on all four sides of both grease traps. The Unistrut design used P1001 Unistrut Supports as the main support structure. The P1001 Supports were installed at 48″ to 60″ on center. The flexibility of the Unistrut system allowed the Unistrut crew to avoid existing piping and conduits not shown on the original plans. The Unistrut system was able to stop and start around piping without any hazardous openings in the walkway.

The Unistrut platform required handrail and kickplate to comply with local safety regulations. P1000 Unistrut was used at 21″ and 42″ above the Unistrut Grating for handrail. G631 Kickplate was used on the outer perimeter to provide 6″ kickplate. All handrail and kickplate was sent in stock lengths to be field cut to size. The Unistrut platform includes an access ladder with self closing safety gate. The ladder was constructed with P1001 uprights, P1000 Rungs, and Ladder Treads.

Unistrut Midwest was able to take this project from concept through installation. Unistrut designed the platform from the grease trap vendor drawings. Unistrut field verified the dimensions and site conditions. Unistrut prefabricated all of the support uprights and ladders. Unistrut installed the access platform in 2-3 days. Overall from start to completion, Unistrut Midwest was able to handle the entire project on time and under budget.
